The Music Review Challenge

I think I can do it…

Aerodynamic – Daft Punk (11-7-09) (Day 69)

Whilst doing a review a while ago, I mentioned that Discovery by Daft Punk was one of my favourite albums of all time. And trust me it still is. Whether an electronic album has ever been produced to that standard is questionable and their originality created music that people had never heard before. And to be truthful, haven’t heard to the same level since. Their sound was distinct, that you could listen to a song by them and immediately say, “This is Daft Punk”, albeit with a little more feeling that was transcribed right there.

This particular song uses a classical sample – which if you read yesterday’s review – is a reason to love it in itself. I didn’t actually know this until I heard Mylene Klass play it on the Pantene advert, where I automatically assumed it must be. And despite my admiration for Ms. Klass, Daft Punk did it better.

Countless times I have listened to Daft Punk and gone “Wow, I never knew this was a Daft Punk track”. I’m ashamed to say that I actually did this with One More Time, perhaps one of their most famous songs and possible their best known after Harder Better… But they write brilliant songs, and I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to anyone who has told me that there is not one Daft Punk song that they like. Feel free to be the first, but it will take a while to convince me.
The arpeggiating synths, church bells and lovely keyboard section at the end is too much of a sacrifice to not listen to. You will love this song.
